Many websites allow consumers to rate, recommend, or complain about a company. These reviews can both assist and mislead consumers. The websites that post these reviews survive by generating advertising revenue. They are looking to bring visitors to the site.
Positive reviews show satisfied clients. Negative reviews from clients show us how to make future clients satisfied. And negative reviews from sellers are the equivalent of positive reviews from clients.
Organizations like the Better Business Bureau, which requires verification of complaints, give Heimer Engineering℠ an A+ rating. The Better Business Bureau provides a level playing field where both the business and the client get equal input. And the Better Business Bureau gives Heimer Engineering℠ an A+ rating.

Moderated reviews are posted at the discretion of whoever runs the website. The reviews may be chosen because they sound interesting, are posted by paying members or members who post a lot of reviews, or because the website owner is offering to remove the bad review in exchange for advertising dollars.
Heimer Engineering℠ performs thousands of inspections every year. Many home inspectors work part-time, and perform one inspection on a weekend. Statistically, Heimer Engineering℠ will receive more complaints than the part-time home inspectors. Less than one inspection in 1000 generates a complaint.
Some pre-purchase inspection companies post lists of complimentary emails, letters, and phone calls they receive. Heimer Engineering℠ receives far, far more complimentary feedback than negative feedback. We do not post this positive feedback.
Some companies post a list of the addresses they have inspected. Posting the address where an inspection has been performed reveals confidential information and violates our client's trust.

|"The bathroom sink did not work."||The report recommended that a plumber repair the sink.|
|"There was also a tree branch through the roof that you missed."||This inspection was performed before Hurricane Sandy. Hurricane Sandy caused a tree branch to fall, which damaged the roof.|
|"The Engineer was wrong about the age of the roof and heating system."||This was posted by a seller, who was unhappy that we found defects in the house.|
|"The attic hatch was in the wrong place."||The attic in this house was accessed by a stairway.|

People can post anything they want on the Web. Just as with everything else on the Web, carefully consider the source before drawing any conclusions.
The Better Business Bureau website lists several complaints regarding Heimer Engineering's℠ Professional Engineers. Heimer Engineering has made a good faith effort to resolve the complaints. Heimer Engineering℠ is a Better Business Bureau Accredited Business, and makes every effort to resolve complaints. However, Heimer Engineering℠ can do nothing about clients who fail to read the reports, clients who ignore our recommendations, clients who listen to sellers who tell them the Engineer is wrong, etc.
- A client complained about several defects in the house that were not in the report: Heimer Engineering's℠ review of the report showed that the alleged deficiencies were included in the report.
- A client had a number of non-specific complaints, most apparently related to work performed by a contractor completing renovations after the inspection: Heimer Engineering℠ cannot control how a contractor performs work.
- A client complained about how electrical issues were reported: This client posted reviews on numerous websites. In speaking with this client, they wanted was a refund because the seller refused to fix an improperly wired light.
- A client complained about rusted metal: The metal was covered with paint at the time of the inspection, and the rust was only detected when the client began chipping away at the paint. In any event, the metal needed to be cleaned and repainted.
- A client complained that a water meter was installed improperly: Heimer Engineering℠ brought the water meter issue to the attention of the client. The seller had an unlicensed person try to correct the issue.
In any business, there are going to be complaints. The above mentioned complaints account for less than 0.05% of the inspections performed by Heimer Engineering's℠ Professional Engineers.
There is a review of Heimer Engineering℠ (currently not recommended) that discusses the food that Heimer Engineering℠ serves. Since Heimer Engineering℠ is not in the restaurant business, clearly this review is misplaced. The fact that a review of the food Heimer Engineering℠ serves comes up on Yelp! shows that not all reviewers are careful.
