Code of EthicsA Professional Engineer performing home inspections adheres to a Code of Ethics. A Professional Engineer is also bound by Engineering laws and Engineering ethics.

A Home Inspector's Code of Ethics deals with non-inspection aspects of the inspection such as the Inspector's relationship with the buyer, seller, broker, etc. Many of the items in the Code of Ethics are common sense.

The Professional of Heimer Engineering℠ substantially adhere (to the extent that they apply to Licensed Engineers) to the InterNACHI® Code of Ethics, to Subpart 197-4 of the State of New York Code of Ethics and Regulations for Home Inspectors, and to the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE®) Code of Ethics. Professional Engineers are also bound by New York State Education Law Article 145, the State of New York Professional Engineering, Land Surveying and Geology laws. We see the ASHI® Code of Ethics as being of limited scope when compared to the NSPE® Code of Ethics, InterNACHI® Code of Ethics, and State of New York law.

Where there is a conflict between different Codes of Ethics, provisions applying to Professional Engineers take precedence over non-Engineering provisions. For example, some non-Engineering Codes of Ethics state that inspections do not include Engineering. A Professional Engineer's inspection includes Engineering.
