Playground and Exercise Equipment Injuries

Many injuries that occur as a result of faulty playground and exercise equipment design or installation.  Among the services Heimer Engineering's licensed Professional Engineers perform are investigations and reports on playground and exercise equipment injuries.  Heimer Engineering has investigated many playground and other incidents at a wide variety of sites.  Playground and exercise equipment is prone to safety problems such as poor or improper maintenance, improper design, improper construction, improper installation, unsafe equipment, and improper repairs.

Codes and other standards are designed to protect the public.  Standards published by organizations such as the  American National Standards Institute (ANSI) state how playground and exercise equipment is supposed to be designed, installed, and maintained.  In many cases, shortcuts were taken in the installation of the equipment, and these shortcuts make the equipment unsafe.  The equipment and site may also violate City of New York Building Codes or New York State Building Codes.  By including these references in the reports, it becomes obvious how the violation contributed to the injury.

In performing these investigations, Heimer Engineering analyzes the site and determine the cause of the injury.  If appropriate, photographs and measurements are taken to document the conditions at the site.  It is then determined which codes and standards are applicable, and how the conditions and equipment at the site violated the codes or standards.

After the research, a report is prepared describing the conditions at the site, the cause of the  playground injury, and the code and reference standard violated.  The reports are clearly written and help all parties understand the cause of the injury.
